Compact shelving for library
Hethermet has created a new compact shelving system for a major public institution in Emilia-Romagna. The client needed to upgrade the archive spaces of the Municipal Library, increasing the storage capacity of the available area and, at the same time, ensuring the protection and rapid consultation of the documentary heritage.
To meet these needs, Etermet designed and installed two manually operated compactable shelving systems on the line Trenta5. The solution allowed us to obtain a total storage capacity of approximately 665 linear metres within a surface area of approximately 100 m², optimizing the available space as much as possible without sacrificing convenience and safety in consultation operations.

The advantages obtained:
- Increased storage capacity: thanks to the compactable system it is possible to open only the aisle needed for picking and placing operations, eliminating the presence of multiple fixed aisles and increasing storage capacity up to 90% compared to traditional shelving.
- Enhancement and protection of documentary heritageThe new shelving allows for the orderly and protected storage of books and historical documents. The enclosed aisles and dust seals also help protect archival materials from external agents.
- Safety: the movement system, complete with floor guides and anti-crushing, anti-tipping and anti-slip devices, guarantees maximum safety during all operations.
- Greater efficiency in consultation: opening only the necessary corridor reduces operator movements, improving the speed and efficiency of document picking and retrieval activities.
